LANGUAGE, CULTURE, AND ASIAN STUDIES

Umberto Ansaldo

I am a researcher of Asian and Creole languages. I investigate Chinese and Malay varieties, as well as endangered contact languages such as Sri Lanka Malay.

Linguist, humanist, higher education leader

I am the author of four books to date (with Cambridge UP, Routledge and Stockholm UP). I have edited or co-edited a further 11 volumes and journal special collections, and authored multiple journal articles and book chapters. These works are about how languages change over time and how multilingualism works in different societies. I also publish work on politics and languages, and racism and knowledge systems. I like to lecture and give public talks about these topics, and I actively participate in debates about the content and purpose of education.
